Plein Air Wear was an idea born of my desire to bring more attention to the plein-air artist community at large. Through hundreds of discussions with painters I realized the need for some painters to have a way of reaching the visitors who stopped by to watch them paint.
So many times, artists wish they had their business card with them to hand out. Some are shy yet still wish to let folks know what plein-air or outdoor painting is all about. Our shirt designs offer definitions on shirt backs so visitors can read privately about what we do. Others make subtle statements, and some are bold and expresses excitement about painting. There is something for everyone here at PAW. Another thing we have done is to create marketing tools for the field. From buttons, car stickers, drawing journals to mugs...they all say, "I am a plein-air painter and it's wonderful!" Why did I do this? I too, am a veteran painter. Many of you know me through my painting and marketing workshops, as Founding Editor of Plein Air Magazine, online discussion groups, blogs or painting with me at events. Clothing as we all know conveys a message, whether it has words on it or not. It may be the style the color, texture, etc. In the case of painting en plein air we need and use apparel to convey who we are when painting in the field. And when not painting we are living our lives as everyone else does for which clothing conveys another message about our individuality.
