IN 1997, a site was started called, The Critique Studio. It was created to serve painters of all kinds, with the tools necessary to help them learn how to paint and draw. But more importantly, how to self-correct their work. Art is a "solo" show, whether done as a hobby or profession. Each artist works alone with wonderment, creativity, skill and determination, so the tools offered then were embraced by many painters.
Then in 2000, the name was changed to The Artists Closet. It was a combination of the first site plus more. More about art marketing, art-making, travel, and the introduction of products for painters. In tandem with the Closet's offerings, an adjunct shop, Plein Air Wear, was a store devoted to creating designs on apparel, gifts and marketing materials for painters - all artists whether they worked in the studio or en plein air.
Ten years later, in 2007, the final merger took place and all the benefits of the previous sites are now under one umbrella of, Plein Air Wear.
Today, "PAW", not only offers all of the above but more, more of everything for the painter. Countless free articles and informational tools for the professional or hobbyist along with great products specifically designed with the painter in mind...something artists are not used to! Art supplies are plentiful (and we offer links to these services as well). Nevertheless, PAW differentiates itself from all other art sites because it fills a niche for painters that others do not.
Enjoy your experience here by extracting all you can from our vast knowledge base! At the same time, please help support us by purchasing products either from the PAW shop or through our sponsors and affiliates. That is how this site is supported.
That all being said, I'd like to personally welcome YOU to Plein Air Wear! Please bookmark us for frequent visits to see what's new, latest and greatest!
All the best to you, colleague painter!
